10/22 - Mt Field National Park and a Platypus

10/22/2012 - Brian & Lyn wanted to show us one of their favorite National Parks and thought there might be a change to see a platypus there.

Still not looking promising, weather-wise.

The road to New Norfolk was nice.

Although we didn't do the Creepy Crawly Walk, this sign was Fascinating!

We did walked to a couple of wonderful waterfalls and the walk was really imoressive.

The Blackwood trees are quite pretty even though working with the wood is dangerous.

Lady Barron Falls seemed to go on and on or up and up!

And peeking over the top all you see are tree tops!  Holy Mackerel!

We walked through fabulous ferns to get to the next waterfall.

Horseshoe Falls!  Ahhh!

Then we went through to the Tall Trees Walk and saw a Pademelon in the brush.

This states that Mt Field's Tallest Tree is the Swamp Gum (a Eucalypt).  This is also the tallest Flowering Plant!

It's amazing to look up... WOW!

We then started driving the unpaved road up to Lake Dobson.

Binoculars confirm the blob is a Platypus!!!

We walked around the lake to try and get a better view, but the little guy would have none of that!  So we just enjoyed the views and the trees and the great company!

Eucalypt wood is striking!

When we get to the Pandani Grove, there is snow on the ground!

Pandani

What a great day in Tasmania's Mt Field National Park!!!
