From the taxi on the way to Sandy Bay |
Nice home... |
on the Derwent River |
It is Spring!!! |
09/27/2012 -We stayed in Brenda & Justin's home overnight and headed north to Launceston through Oatlands and Ross
The Derwent in the morning |
Mill is still going strong |
Oatlands is famous for its mill and the flours the mill produces in addition to the historic buildings.
The fascinating things are the stone wall built without mortar and the mill itself, which is run by the wind... a true 'windmill!'
Gorgeous town!
Here are some of the buildings...
Skinny door |
The oven used to bake bread. |
The bread from the bakery was FABULOUS!
The we headed for Ross and its famous bridge - it has carvings like those found in Paris Bridges and it is a National Engineering Landmark.
The bridge also tells how far it is to Hobart and to Launceston!
This church is excellent... the pastor put a handwritten request to close the door since the birds and the bees seem to like the church too.
Here is our lunch place... the best Curried Scallop Pies ever!
2 monuments in the town show the movement of the 42nd parallel.
We were welcomed to Lindsay and Lorraine's home in Launceston early afternoon.
09/28/2012 - Weather karma was not good this morning,so Lindsay took us around Launceston to look at its historic buildings, have a coffee, and stop into the Tasmania Design Center to be amazed at the Tasmanian wood and how the woodworkers put things together.
Asian artist on display - interesting, but not practical |
There's a center brace so one can sit on the end. |
Clean lines! |
These 2 tables are skinny, but long... fascinating! |
Interesting concept. |
The Inlay pieces are gorgeous. |
Huon Pine Veneer |
Blackheart Sassafras |
Entry Art - Awesome! |
Intricate Detailing |
We had lunch at a gorgeous Japanese Garden, but the rain was too bad to take pictures.
Then we went wine tasting along the Tamar River and on the way home stopped at a gorgeous park with incredible views and an odd history.
Matthew Brady was a bad person who was caught and then escaped... he spent a few years free but then came to this place and had a standoff with the military. The military won - the guy was 27.
Here is where we went...
Good day - even with the rain!
We went out to dinner at Hallam's Waterfront Seafood Restaurant in Launceston... Lindsay & Lorraine were right, that was one of the best meals we have had!
